| Mirren & Harris Join National Treasure 2 Cast
Oscar winner Helen Mirren is leaving behind the royals for Disney's action-adventure sequel "National Treasure: The Book of Secrets," now filming. Ed Harris is also a new addition to the cast, led by Nicolas Cage, who reprises his role as the treasure-hunting Ben Gates. Jerry Bruckheimer Films is producing. Mirren will play Emily Appleton, Gates' mother, while Harris plays the villain. The studio plans to release the picture December 21, 2007.

| Disney Wins a Ruling in Long Pooh Dispute
A federal judge Tuesday dismissed several claims against Walt Disney Co. brought by a Beverly Hills family that holds the merchandising rights to Winnie the Pooh.U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper threw out three of the Slesinger family's claims in a case dealing with copyright for Winnie the Pooh. Cooper set aside the Slesingers' nine other claims, saying they should be resolved after a decision is reached in an appeal of a related state court case, which Disney won. "We're pleased with the court's decision," said Daniel Petrocelli, Disney's attorney in the long-running litigation. Patricia Slesinger saw a silver lining in the judge's decision. "The ruling allows our case to proceed," she said.

| Epcot Visionary, Tim Onosko, Passes-Away
Within the Disney empire, Tim Onosko was known as the go-to guy for the future. By often accurately forecasting how technology would alter the entertainment landscape, he developed a reputation as a high-tech soothsayer. At Disney, he helped refine the newly opened Epcot in Florida in the 1980s by steering the theme park's designers toward cutting-edge gadgets. He also played a more ethereal role: By celebrating what technology could do, according to company executives, Onosko helped the engineers and designers known as Imagineers lose their fear of stepping into the future. Onosko, who also was a journalist and filmmaker, died March 6 at his home in Madison, Wis., after battling pancreatic cancer, said his wife, Beth Abrohams. He was 60.

| Disney Artist Store Opens in India
The first Walt Disney franchise store opened in India on Saturday, officials from Disney's local partners said, giving the company its first foothold in India's lucrative retail market. The store, which sells Walt Disney Co.'s branded stationery products under the name "Disney Artist," opened in Gurgaon, a suburb of New Delhi, said Arjun Verma, chief financial officer of Devyani International Ltd. In October, Disney announced the tie-up with India's RJ Corp. to enter the local market.

"Ever since finding out last spring we were moving to Okinawa, Japan, I've been more than ready to visit the Tokyo Disney Resort, something I never imagined doing in my lifetime. We planned for 5 nights, Sunday-Friday, with 3 days in the parks. Overall, we didn't have much of a plan, and I admit, I didn't do a lot of research beforehand. They don't take priority seating for dining until the day of, so we didn't make an advance arrangements. We also didn't have any advance transportation arrangements made, as you buy your bus tickets to the resort at the airport. And park tickets were to be bought at the hotel. So with only plane tickets and a hotel reservation, we were off!" --Melanears, Director INTERCOT Guest Relations Day One: Arrival and Ikspiari Mel and the Gang arrive and check out some of the out-of-park sites. They first tour Ikspiari, the Oritental cousin to Downtown Disney, and take a quick look at the Disney Ambassador Hotel. After this small excursion , they check into the Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel where they discover a breathtaking view of the resort and a special nightcap to their busy day.

| Walt Disney Records Launches D*Concert
Disney Online, part of the Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG), Disney Channel and Walt Disney Records today announced the launch of "D*Concert: Disney Channel Concert Series," a virtual concert series premiering exclusively in Disney Xtreme Digital. The series will feature Disney Channel-headlining musical acts Hannah Montana, The Cheetah Girls and the cast of High School Musical. Available only on Disney.com, Disney XD is a customizable, personalized entertainment and social networking experience that now allows fans to rock out online. The three-month online concert series, spanning from March through May, will kick off with a Hannah Montana performance beginning March 13 and available through March 19.

| Disney Takes Annual Meeting to the Big Easy
This year, Walt Disney investors will be flocking to New Orleans, which was hit a little more than 18 months ago by Hurricane Katrina. While parts of the city remain in a state of devastation, the Big Easy's downtown area and tourist attractions are relatively intact and have largely recovered. Disney has joined a growing list of corporations that have, at least in small measure, tried to do their part to revitalize New Orleans' tourist industry -- one of the most vital segments in the stricken city's economy.

Disney Channel expanded its presence in Africa yesterday, as the channel's broadcast hours grew from 16 to 24 hours a day on MultiChoice's DStv satellite platform. Launched under a multi-year carriage deal just six months ago to over 1.3 million DStv subscribers across South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa, the channel previously aired from 6.00 to 22.00.

Walt Disney World has announced that Alfredo di Roma Ristorante, a fixture at the Italy Pavilion in Epcot for over 20 years, is closing permanently at the end of August, 2007. There will be a replacement Italian restaurant opening in the same location and it is expected to be a Disney Dining Plan location. Disney, however, has not released any further details at this time.

Disney UK celebrates the first anniversary of its move onto the satellite and cable basic packages this weekend, with a 60% rise in audience share. Shows like High School Musical, Hannah Montana and That's So Raven have helped push the Disney Channel's ratings beyond those of terrestrial broadcaster Five in the first quarter of 2007 alone. Disney Cinemagic, which launched into the premium movie market to coincide with Disney Channel's move to the basic package, is now the leading premium film channel for kids.
Since their birth, in 1994, with The Return of Jafar, the sequels have entertained (and made) millions; they've also enraged no small number of Disney fans who see them as little more than desecrations of the beloved originals. DisneyToon Studios, the last division of the Company to still produce direct-to-video sequals, has announced the end to the program. DisneyToon Studios head Sharon Morrill has no mixed feelings over the end of an era. "I knew from early on when I first started that we weren't going to be doing 4s and 5s," says Morill. "I think we had a great run, but we have to be fresh and innovative, otherwise we would've gotten stale."
Walt Disney Pictures animated film, Meet the Robinsons is now available for the Wii(TM) from Nintendo, Xbox 360(TM) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system, Nintendo DS(TM), Nintendo GameCube(TM), Windows PC and Game Boy(R) Advance. "With a completely original story, Meet the Robinsons expands on the film by allowing players to experience the unique and action-packed environments of the Robinsons' universe, " said Craig Relyea, vice president of marketing, Disney Interactive Studios.
Disney officials will announce the construction of a 70,000-plus square-foot arena Wednesday during a 10th-anniversary celebration for Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. The Jostens Center will have more than 44,800 square feet of competition space, the Orlando Sentinel reported. It will feature six basketball courts, 12 volleyball courts, two roller hockey rinks, four locker rooms, two conference areas and two officials' rooms. The building is scheduled to open in fall 2008 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.
Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) has teamed up with Walt Disney Parks and electronics company Siemens this semester to create a collection of arcade games called Project Spaceship Earth for Disney's Epcot Center. The Entertainment Technology Center's website stated, "The games offer a fun and exciting look at how Siemens technologies make our lives better." In particular, this attraction will take the form of several exhibits that relate to health care, transportation, and energy. It will occupy 9000 square feet.
Spring has sprung and so has a bouquet of Disney related television. Episodes of 'Sabrina, The Teenage Witch' and 'Rosanne' featuring trips to Walt Disney World are airing on ABC Family and Oxygen, respectively. April 1st may be April Fool's Day, but the Travel Channel is not fooling around when it airs an entire day of Disney related programing. From 2:00 pm till 11:00 pm, the channel will air 9 shows covering everything from behind the scenes at Disney World, to the Disney Cruise Line, to the Great Hotels of the Disney World Resort, to the Imagineers that built them all. Just falling short of a Disney overload -- Toon Disney, The Hallmark Channel and The Disney Channel are flooding the airwaves with movies like The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Aristocats, and The Swiss Family Robinson.
Walt Disney Co.'s 1946 film "Song of the South" was historic. It was Disney's first big live-action picture and produced one of the company's most famous songs -- the Oscar-winning "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah." It also carries the story line of the Splash Mountain rides at its theme parks. But the movie remains hidden in the Disney archives -- never released on video in the United States and criticize by some as racist for its depiction of Southern plantation blacks. The film's 60th anniversary passed last year without a whisper of official rerelease, which is unusual for Disney, but President and CEO Bob Iger recently said the company was reconsidering.
Fitch Ratings upgraded The Walt Disney Company's (Disney) Issuer Default Rating (IDR) and senior unsecured debt rating to 'A-'. The company's commercial paper (CP) program rating was affirmed at 'F-2'. Approximately $12.3 billion in consolidated debt is affected. The Outlook is Stable. The company has benefited from cyclical improvements related to the theme park business, solid growth in ratings and advertising at ABC Broadcasting, success in leveraging its content across multiple distribution platforms, and management's focus on strengthening the company's credit profile over the past several years.
Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG) acquired Enorbus, a software developer with operations in China. Financial backers in the company included Carlyle and Qualcomm Ventures. This is the second mobile content related acquisition the company has done in China in a few months. It bought Chinese mobile content and marketing firm Mobile2win (M2W) last August.
Oriental Land Co., the operator of Tokyo Disney Resort, will close some of its stores that sell Disney merchandise and revamp operations at its other outlets to move into the black. The Disney stores are expected to see a net loss of about 1.8 billion yen in the business year through March 31 on sales of some 17.6 billion yen, which excludes sales of admission tickets to the theme parks. The goal is to boost store sales to 21 billion yen and get an operating profit margin of at least 4 percent by business 2010. The company, which has 54 Disney stores nationwide, plans to close one outlet in Sapporo and another in Kumamoto Prefecture by the end of the month and will shut several others by next March.
One of the most popular, long-running shows on both the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, "Disney Dreams," will display new dazzle as "Disney Dreams . . . An Enchanted Classic" with elaborately enhanced special effects, animation and new scenic elements. The revitalized show will debut on the Disney Wonder March 21, 2007, and will be unveiled on the Disney Magic just in time for the ship's inaugural season in the Mediterranean this May. Also beginning this summer, guests on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder will find a greatly enhanced Sail-Away Party, featuring new music, interactive dances and appearances by the world-famous Disney characters on the upper decks.

Disney's Pirate and Princess Party will be returning select nights in August 2007. This second run of the after-hours Magic Kingdom hard ticket event will transform the park into a world of pirates and princess just as it did on select nights from January 22 through March 8, 2007 .
The Walt Disney Co. has started production on an animated musical fairy tale called "The Frog Princess," which will be set in New Orleans and feature the Walt Disney Studio's first black princess. The company unveiled the plans Thursday at its annual shareholders' meeting in New Orleans. John Lasseter, chief creative officer for Disney and the Disney-owned unit Pixar Animation Studios, said the movie would return to the classic hand-drawn animation process, instead of using computer animation that has become the industry standard. He called the film "an American fairy tale."
Disney's Animal Kingdom is part of a consortium considering buying a couple’s elephant sanctuary and turning it into a national center for pachyderm research, breeding and training. Under a draft plan, the Animal Kingdom and nine zoos from around the nation would team up to buy the 330-acre Elephant and Wildlife Sanctuary for $3.6 million, though both sides said the deal is still being discussed. The facility, which has 13 elephants, has been run for 16 years by Scott and Heidi Riddle. The consortium hopes to begin operating it by this summer.
Because moviegoers are demanding it, distribution windows will do some further shrinking, so movie studios should work closely with the exhibition industry to ensure that consumers get what they want without inflicting pain on theater owners, the Walt Disney Co. CEO Robert Iger said Monday. In a wide-ranging presentation at the Bear Stearns Media Conference in Palm Beach, Fla., Iger also said that next-generation DVDs "will take over," Internet downloads do not cannibalize other distribution formats and the newly designed Disney.com is an enormous opportunity for advertisers. Iger said that in the month since its relaunch, Disney.com has been streaming about 100 million videos per week, and Disney intends to better monetize all that action via online ads.
Since the days of the 1928 Mickey Mouse classic "Steamboat Willie," animation was Disney's undisputed long suit. But after a recent decade-long parade of disappointments, most famously the 2002 bomb "Treasure Planet," the studio was desperate for a change of fortune. Enter Lasseter who, along with a close team of handpicked animators had made Pixar this generation's premier storyteller with an unbroken string of hits including "Monsters, Inc.," "Finding Nemo" and "The Incredibles." The first filmmaker to run Disney's animation operations since Walt Disney died in 1966, he said he wants to reclaim the studio's golden era.
Sham Rock 'n' Roll at Pleasure Island celebrates St. Patrick's Day March 15-17 from 7 p.m.-2 a.m. The Island will "turn green" with live music, videos by Irish artists, leprechauns, stilt walkers and more. The Irish owners of Raglan Road Irish Restaurant & Pub have also lined up a non-stop program of Irish music, song and dance across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 16-18, to match anything found in their native Dublin, Ireland.
Muppet characters Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant Beaker have recently started to greet Guests at Disney's California Adventure. As part of Disney's Living Characters initiative, Walt Disney Imagineering Research and Development is 'playtesting' its 'Muppet Mobile Lab' featuring the classic Muppet characters. This next step in the evolution of Disney storytelling technology represents the first-ever, freeroaming Audio-Animatronics characters able to interact with each other as well as Guests. The Muppet Mobile Lab is not currently scheduled as a permanent attraction in any Disney park.
Walt Disney World Resort President Meg Crofton has announced two new projects as part of an expansion plan for the resort in Central Florida. A new 900-acre luxury resort anchored by the prestigious Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and a 450-acre retail, dining and lodging district on the western edge of the resort. "Families around the globe know they can trust Disney to deliver magical experiences and Four Seasons to offer exceptional service and amenities. Combined, this is a huge win for devotees of both brands and for Central Florida," Meg Crofton said. The project is currently in the design stage. Site work and branding is anticipated to begin later this year. The project will be built in phases over the next eight to 10 years.
