Walt Disney World pledged $12.5 million Monday afternoon toward the proposed $389 million Orlando Performing Arts Center, putting heft behind the promise for help that new Disney President Meg Crofton offered to community leaders four months ago. Crofton announced the donation at the Disney Amphitheater at Lake Eola in downtown Orlando during festivities that included Mickey and Minnie Mouse, singers, dancers and fireworks.

| Disney Breaks iTunes Sales Record
The Walt Disney Co sold 23.7 million television episodes and two million movies via Apple’s iTunes Store in its most recent quarter, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger. Last November Iger reported that Disney had sold close to 500,000 movies since launching them on the iTunes Store in September, 2006. He said at that time that Disney's ABC TV subsidiary had sold about 12 million TV shows through the iTunes Store since the service began offering TV shows for download.

| Disney Cracks Down on Shijingshan Park
Disney bosses are in crisis talks with the owners of a 'fake' Chinese version of the famous amusement park. Over the weeklong May Day holiday, the Shijingshan Amusement Park filled its grounds on Beijing's western suburbs with actors in costumes that resembled Disney and other foreign characters. A banner over the entrance said, "Disney is too far, so please come to Shijingshan." The banner has now been taken down and none of the cartoon characters were on display, as crisis talks with Disney continue.

For the first time in its 52 years, the C.K. Holliday Locomotive No. 1 will leave Disneyland and trundle down Harbor Boulevard for a guest appearance at this city's ninth-annual Railroad Days on Saturday and Sunday. The 9-ton engine will be loaded onto a flatbed truck about noon Friday for the half-hour trip to the Fullerton Transportation Center, 122 E. Santa Fe Ave.

The Disney Channel has announced plans to premiere "High School Musical 2" in August. All of the stars of the original film are reportedly returning. The DVD sold more than $7.5 million copies and the soundtrack was the highest-selling album of the year. "High School Musical 2" will premiere August 17 on the Disney Channel.

Disney Channel Turkey launched in Istanbul yesterday as per a multi-year deal with digital platform Digiturk, which picked up exclusive broadcast rights to the 24/7 kidnet in the region. Meanwhile, Disney Channel has signed a new deal with cable operator Aster to reach 200,000 more subscribers in Poland. The channel has been beaming into 1.8 million Polish homes on subscription-based digital platforms CYFRA+ and Cyfrowy Polsat since December 2, 2006.
