Disney World Kennel Change & New Pet Hotel
Beginning January 10, 2008, the Walt Disney World Resort will transition its kennel operations to an industry expert, Best Friends PetCare Inc. Best Friends is a national provider of pet hospitality in the United States, with 44 locations in 18 states.Best Friends is also slated to build and operate a full-service, luxury pet "resort" at the Walt Disney World Resort expected to open in mid-2009.

Flamingo Crossings Development Announced
The Walt Disney World Reosrt's land-development company, Buena Vista Land Co., has begun offering parcels for sale and development within Flamingo Crossings, the 450-acre lodging-and-shopping district. The project was announced last winter with the working name of "Western Way" development. This development marks the first chance for third-party owners to buy and develop land inside Reedy Creek. Flamingo Crossings is to be built in phases over eight to 10 years--Infrastructure construction could start this winter, and the first private hotels or shops could break ground in a year or two.

Shanghai Disneyland Plan Dusted Off?
Chinesse authorities have announced that the previously suspended plan to build a Disneyland theme park in Shanghai has been revived despite representatives of Disney declining to comment on the development. The Asia Pacific unit of Walt Disney Comercial Products, Walt Disney Company (Shanghai) Ltd, did release the following statement: "China is a priority for the entire company, and we have a continuing dialogue about a variety of Disney initiatives, including television, motion pictures and consumer products, of which theme parks are only a part."

The 2007 Disney Legends
For 20 years, the Disney Legends induction ceremony has been how Disney honors its own - the brilliant, hardworking men and women who have created the magic. This year's inductees include broadcasters and animators, executives, and songsters. The 2007 Disney Legends were inducted at the heart of the Disney Studios, there were no paparazzi on the red carpet, and no posh posturing. The crowd was largely composed of Disney Legends - both newly minted and those named in years past - their families, and their colleagues past and present.

Dick Nunis Inducted into IAAPA Hall of Fame
The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) announced that Dick Nunis is the 2007 inductee to the IAAPA Hall of Fame. Nunis, a Disney Legend since 1999, was inducted into the IAAPA Hall of Fame in honor of his 44 years of service to the Walt Disney Company. During his tenure with The Walt Disney Company, Disneyland grew from 600 cast members to 13,000, and Walt Disney World was transformed from undeveloped swampland in Central Florida to a vacation kingdom employing more than 60,000. Having served a fruitful career with the company, Nunis retired as chairman of Walt Disney Attractions on May 26, 1999.

Disney to Launch Cellphone Service in Japan
Desipite recently shutting the doors to its doemstic namesake mobile venture, Disney is looking to start up a new mobile service overseas. Disney is joining forces with Japan's Softbank Corp's network to provide cell service. Disney is targeting families with downloads and handsets featuring Disney characters. The goal is to get 1 million subscribers.

Two More Hotels Added to 'Green' List
Walt Disney World's Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground earned spots on the Florida Green Lodging Program. The locations are the 45th and 46th to receive the state designation. Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground have made changes to help conserve water and energy, reduce waste and improve indoor air quality. The hotels are using low-flow toilets and fixtures, energy-efficient lighting, environmentally preferable cleaners and recycling office paper.

Former Imagineer, Bruce Gordon Passes Away
Bruce Gordon, a former longtime Disney Imagineer who was involved in the creation of numerous Disney theme park attractions around the world and wrote or co-wrote an array of Disney-related books, has died at age 56. Gordon was the show producer for the 1998 renovation of Tomorrowland, as well as for the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and for Tarzan's Treehouse. When he left his position as a project director at Walt Disney Imagineering in 2005, he was the show producer for the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.

Disneyland Resort Salutes Heroes of Wildfires
Following The Walt Disney Company's recent announcement that it is donating $2 million to fire relief efforts, Disneyland Resort officials announced a special opportunity to honor their service to the community. "Disney’s Wildfire Heroes Salute," running Nov. 13, 2007, through Feb. 28, 2008, offers Southern California firefighters, law enforcement and rescue personnel a chance to enjoy complimentary, three-day "Park Hopper" admission into Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure parks, plus special admission discounts for their family members and friends.

Disney May Consider Site in Malaysia
Walt Disney Co is looking to build a theme park on a 500-acre (202-hectare) site in southern Malaysia, a business weekly reported on Saturday. Citing unnamed sources, the Edge said the theme park, to be located in Bardar Nusajaya in the Iskandar development zone, would be ready six years after a deal was signed, according to early proposals. The 2,200 square km (850 sq miles) Iskandar zone has so far clinched at least $6 billion in investments, including a $4.7 billion maritime park proposed by Dubai World and Malaysia's infrastructure-to-energy group MMC Bhd.

Alamo Rent A Car and Disney Renew Alliance
Alamo Rent A Car - the official rental car company of the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando and Disneyland Resort in California - has renewed its alliance with Walt Disney Parks & Resorts under an extended marketing agreement. The agreement, which runs through 2011, also extends Alamo's position as the official rental car supplier for Walt Disney Travel Company, Inc., one of the country's largest tour operators, specializing in Disney vacation packages to Southern California and Central Florida.
