New Vision for Downtown Disney Unveiled

The Walt Disney World Resort unveiled a new vision for Downtown Disney, with extraordinary new shopping, dining and other experiences including a completely re-imagined Pleasure Island. Over the next year, the 120-acre entertainment, shopping, dining complex will add a number of one-of-a-kind, immersive experiences for guests. Downtown Disney will even get its own iconic attraction, in the form of a giant, tethered balloon that will take guests 300 feet into the air to view the amazing vistas of Walt Disney World Resort. To make way for the new offerings, all 6 of the exsiting night clubs on Pleasure Island will close on September 27, 2008.

Disney Parks Channel Launched on YouTube

Walt Disney Parks & Resorts launched The Disney Parks Channel on YouTube on June 25, 2008. To help commemorate the launch of this new YouTube Channel, the group is also launching the My Favorite Disney Parks Memory Contest. Eligible participants can submit a video of their family having fun at a Disney Theme Park with the hopes of a Grand Prize of a stay in the Disneyland Dream Suite. The contest video submissions will become part of the growing library of content available on the new Disney Parks YouTube channel.

Melbourne Vies for Top Spot in Festival

Tourism Victoria has confirmed Melbourne, Austrilia is vying for the right to be featured as one of the world's four great food cities when the Epcot International Food & Wine festival kicks-off in September 2008. Tourism Victoria marketing director Don Richter said Disney had invited Victoria to bid because of its reputation as a food and wine destination. Other frontrunners for the 4 featured spots included New Orleans, Copenhagen and Rio de Janeiro.

Lucky Brand Jeans and Disney Consumer Products announced the rebirth of Walt Disney's first icon, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The predecessor to Mickey Mouse, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit returned to The Walt Disney Company in 2006, long after his original theatrical debut in 1927. Just in time for summer, this limited-edition collection of T-shirts, featuring Oswald will be sold only at Lucky Kid, Lucky Brand Jeans stores and online at luckybrandjeans.com. In addition, Lucky Brand Jeans and Disney have come together to create a special Oswald stencil t-shirt which is offered exclusively as part of the limited edition Oswald vinyl figure box set.
