ESPN The Weekend Returns to Disney World

ESPN and Walt Disney World Resort are again offering fans the opportunity to see and hear ESPN personalities and current and legendary athletes during ESPN The Weekend presented by Dick's Sporting Goods, a one-of-a-kind sports-themed special event at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park February 27-March 1. The "Weekend" will feature on-site telecasts, star motorcades, Q&A sessions and much, much more.

Karl Holz Returns As Disney Cruise Line President

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Disney Cruise Line President Tom McAlpin is leaving the company as part of a corporate reshuffling announced Friday. McAlpin is being replaced by the same man he succeeded as Disney Cruise Line president: Karl Holz, who is currently president of New Vacation Operations, where he oversees the Adventures By Disney tour operation. In his new role, Holz will run both the cruise line and the new-vacation division.

American Idol Experience Attraction Opens At Disney World with Blue Carpet Premiere

With the largest-ever gathering of "American Idol" winners joining in the celebration, Walt Disney World Resort Thursday night raised the curtain on "The American Idol Experience", a new attraction capturing the energy and excitement of the hit TV show. Thursday's grand premiere, at Disney's Hollywood Studios, was attended by all seven winners of the series, from season-one winner Kelly Clarkson to season-seven champion David Cook.

Raytheon Company Announces New Disney World Projects

Raytheon Company today celebrated the grand opening of The Family Technology Center at the Shades of Green on Walt Disney World Resort, and also recently announced 'The Sum of All Thrills' interactive, math-based experience to open at INNOVENTIONS in Epcot in fall 2009.

Disney Creates Fellowships To Honor Randy Pausch

The Walt Disney Company has announced the creation of the Disney Memorial Pausch Fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University in recognition of the passion and energy Dr. Randy Pausch brought to his work at both Carnegie Mellon and Walt Disney Imagineering. Pausch is best known for his life-affirming "Last Lecture," which he delivered to his students and colleagues a few weeks after learning he had just months to live.

Ed Catmull Honored At Sci-Tech Oscars

Ed Catmull, president of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, accepted an Oscar statuette Saturday night for a lifetime of work in computer animation. He said he was inspired by early Disney films "Peter Pan" and "Pinocchio". Pixar celebrates its 23rd birthday this year and is set to release "Up" - it's 10th feature - in May.

DreamWorks And Disney Talk Distribution

According to the Associated Press, Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks SKG production company is in talks to have The Walt Disney Co. distribute six of its movies a year as talks broke down with current distributor Universal Pictures.

'it's a small world' Returns to Disneyland With New Magic

A beloved Disneyland attraction returns to Fantasyland on Friday, Feb. 6, when 'it's a small world' opens with some new storytelling magic. With the premiere of a new "Spirit of America" scene, new musical enhancements, and a new look for some of the attraction's familiar child dolls, 'it's a small world' will once again take guests of all ages on "the happiest cruise that ever sailed."

Hong Kong Disneyland Raising Prices

Hong Kong Disneyland will increase weekday admission prices for both mainland and overseas tourists by nearly 20 percent, starting on Monday, despite the global financial crisis. The new price scheme does away with the different ticket prices charged on weekdays, weekends and special days. Admission on weekdays will be raised to the same level of weekends - up from HK$295 to HK$350 for adults, and from HK$210 to HK$250 for children.

Walt Disney Company Reports First Quarter Earnings

The Walt Disney Company today reported earnings for its first fiscal quarter ended December 27, 2008. "We faced a challenging first quarter with many of our businesses impacted to various degrees by the economic downturn," said Robert A. Iger, Disney's president and CEO. "We are forcefully confronting current circumstance while investing in the great creativity, brands and assets that are Disney's strengths and keys to its long-term success."

Disney Cruise Line Ranked No. 1 Cruise Experience

Disney Cruise Line was recently named the top large cruise ship experience by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine in the ninth annual 'Reader's Cruise Poll.' The Cruise Poll recognizes the best cruise ships as voted by Conde Nast Traveler readers. Winners were determined by a survey of more than 11,000 participants who rated 400 ships. Participants were asked to rate ships based on specific criteria including staterooms, activities, service, design and layout, dining, itineraries and shore excursions.

They're Going To Disney World!

How are Santonio Holmes and Ben Roethlisberger celebrating their Super Bowl heroics? They're going to Disney World Monday for a victory parade. Holmes and Roethlisberger will go to the place where millions of vacationers celebrate their personal milestone moments. They will be joined in the Magic Kingdom by NFL Youth Football players from Jacksonville, Fla., who will participate with the Steeler stars in a Super Bowl celebration parade down Main Street, U.S.A.
