'UP' Has $68.2 Debut Weekend

The animated action comedy "Up" is soaring in its first weekend at theaters. According to distributor Walt Disney, the film from Pixar Animation pulled in $68.2 million. That's the third-best opening weekend for a Pixar animated film, just behind the $70 million debuts for "Finding Nemo" and "The Incredibles."

D23 Members Have Opportunity To Become Donald Duck's Official Portrait Artist

For the first time ever, Disney is turning to fans to create an official portrait of one of its biggest stars. Finalists in the Donald Duck 75th Anniversary Portrait Contest will have their work unveiled and displayed at the inaugural D23 Expo, which will be held September 10-13 at the Anaheim Convention Center, adjacent to Disneyland.

ESPN Research Facility To Open at WDW

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Walt Disney World and ESPN are building a new research facility at the Wide World of Sports complex. Dubbed the "ESPN Innovation Lab," the facility will allow the cable-sports giant to test new applications such as virtual graphics during events staged at Disney's sports venues.

New Attractions Announced For Tokyo Disney Resort

Opening in 2011 inside Cinderella Castle in Fantasyland at Tokyo Disneyland Park will be a new walkthrough type attraction themed to the Disney classic film Cinderella. At Tokyo DisneySea Park, the new attraction Toy Story Mania! will open in 2012 in the themed port of American Waterfront.

Disney Brings Animated Christmas Special To ABC

Walt Disney Animation, in its first special for its sibling TV network, is prepping 'Prep and Landing,' due late this year. Based on characters created by Chris Williams and produced by Pixar whiz John Lasseter, Prep looks at the high-tech North Pole Christmas Eve Command Center, where coordinator Magee pairs disgruntled elf Wayne with eager young recruit Lanny to prepare the world's homes for Santa's arrival.

Robobama To Debut In July

A July reopening is planned for the Hall of Presidents, an iconic attraction in Magic Kingdom. An Audio-Animatronics version of President Barack Obama will join representations of the previous 43 presidents of the United States as part of an attraction that has been celebrating American history since Walt Disney World Resort opened in 1971. Disney Imagineers also are updating a broad array of show elements.

Star Wars Weekends Are Back At Disney's Hollywood Studios

Once again, the power of the Force and the magic of Disney combine in May and June for Star Wars Weekends, a sci-fi fan-fest inspired by the popular film saga. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 22-June 14, 2009, Disney's Hollywood Studios becomes the temporary home for a band of out-of-this-world characters, including Wookiees, Sith, droids, Jedi, Ewoks, bounty hunters and Rodians.

Will It Be Adam Or Kris Headed to Disney World?

Wayne Allwine, Voice of Mickey Mouse, Passes Away At Age 62

Wayne Allwine, the voice of Mickey Mouse since 1977, has died at age 62 from complications of diabetes. Wayne was married to Russi Taylor, the voice of Minnie Mouse, and was named a Disney Legend in 2008. Wayne was only the third person to voice the American icon, following Walt Disney himself, and Wayne's own mentor, Jimmy McDonald.

National Harbor Sells Land To Disney

The Peterson Companies announced today the sale of land at its National Harbor development near Washington, DC to Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Disney is considering using the 15-acre site overlooking the Potomac River in National Harbor, MD as the location for a resort hotel for families and others visiting the National Capital Region.
