Give A Day, Get A Disney Day

Disney Parks today announced a new program that celebrates the spirit of volunteer service with a simple proposition: "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day." Disney hopes to inspire families to volunteer in their communities during 2010 through this first-of-its-kind program. One million people who perform volunteer service for a participating organization will receive a free one-day admission ticket to a Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort theme park.

Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy At Disneyland


Out of the darkness and swirling galaxies of Space Mountain, ghosts try to pluck riders from their seats as they speed through space. The drops and curves of the journey are even scarier with piercing screams and haunting music. Check out the video above, and you just might get goosebumps. Scare alert: If you find these haunting thrills too frightening you can still enjoy the outside of Space Mountain. The mountain's exterior will transform into a show that includes new lights, audio and eerie images.

Halloween Time Starts Friday At Disneyland Resort

From Sept. 25 through Nov. 1, families have a chance to celebrate Halloween Time as they interact with some of Disney's most beloved characters decked out in seasonal costumes, along with Disney's more sinister characters - the Disney villains - at Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure parks. Guests will enjoy a spooky new fireworks show called "Halloween Screams - A Villainous Surprise in the Skies." A scary new adventure awaits at Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party returns for 12 special nights in October.

Disney World Transportation Management Restructured

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Walt Disney World is shaking up its transportation leadership, after a turbulent summer that included the first fatal monorail accident in the resort's history. Disney has appointed Jim Vendur, a vice president who had previously been in charge of transportation maintenance, to oversee both operations and maintenance of a system of that includes the 15-mile monorail, ferryboats and a fleet of about 300 buses. Vendur's responsibilities also include utilities and telecommunications at the resort.

Walt Disney Company Rethinking Guided-Tour Business

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that amid the global economic downturn, the Walt Disney Co. is rethinking Adventures By Disney, the guided-tour business that executives hope can develop into a valuable niche in the company's theme-parks division. For the first time since Adventures' inception, Disney is scaling it back. The company has cut scores of trips from Adventures' 2010 schedule and has dropped a handful of destinations - including Spain, Austria and the Czech Republic - entirely.

Walt Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook Resigns

Walt Disney Studios Chairman Dick Cook stepped down on Friday from his post to pursue "new adventures" after privately telling staff he felt he no longer fit in at the No. 1 U.S. entertainment company. Cook, who fondly described his 38-year rise from Disneyland ride operator to head the Hollywood studio in 2002, said in a statement that he had been contemplating his departure "for some time now" and felt it was the right time to move on.

Donald's Alaskan Adventure With Disney Cruise Line


Donald Duck Discovers Alaska with Disney Cruise Line! Disney Cruise Line will sail to Alaska for the first time in the summer of 2011. This will also be the first time a Disney cruise ship will call the West Coast home for an entire year. The Disney Wonder will sail seven-night Alaskan Cruises, departing from Vancouver, B.C., and visiting Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway.

Disney Wonder Bound For Alaska In 2011

It's a Disney Cruise Line first! The Disney Wonder Cruise Ship is sailing to Alaska for a four-month season of 7-night cruises in 2011. Departing out of Vancouver, B.C., the ship will call on popular ports such as Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway. The first Alaskan cruise sets sail on May 3, 2011, with the last cruise of the season scheduled for Aug. 30, 2011.

WDW Fantasyland Refurbishment: It's Official!

Jay Rasulo confirmed at D23 the validity documents that were leaked to the internet and posted on INTERCOT in July. This means a new Little Mermaid "E-Ticket", Gaston's Restaurant, Expanded and Enhanced Dumbo, Princess Homes and Pixie Hollow are all coming to Walt Disney World. Rasulo outlined plans for the largest expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom, vastly increasing the size of Fantasyland by 2013.

Sneak Peek At Star Tours II

D23 EXPO Going On Now!

Day one is in the books! It was a successful start for the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA as Disney's ultimate fans were treated to an address by Disney President and CEO Bob Iger, the 2009 Disney Legends Induction Ceremony, an awesome exhibit of artifacts from the Disney Archives and plenty of star power. New Dragon Debuts In Fantasmic! At Disneyland

Joining the cast at Disneyland is a spectacular new fire-breathing dragon takes center stage in Fantasmic! the long-running spectacular presented on the Rivers of America in New Orleans Square and Frontierland in Disneyland. The dragon, inspired by Sleeping Beauty, stretches as high as 45 feet tall, is capable of a wide range of movement and breathes a 35-foot-long plume of fire that ignites the Rivers of America.

Disney Interactive Studios To Aquire Wideload Games Inc.

Disney Interactive Studios announced yesterday it has agreed to acquire Wideload Games Inc., a Chicago-based producer and developer of original interactive entertainment. As part of the agreement, industry veteran and creative visionary Alexander Seropian, Wideload Games founder and CEO, will join Disney Interactive Studios in the newly created role of vice president of creative, leading the company's global creative efforts.

Buzz Lightyear Returning to Earth

Buzz is coming home from "infinity and beyond." The 12-inch action figure has been at the international space station for more than a year. Mission Control asked Discovery's crew to do a final check to make certain Buzz was safely stowed on the shuttle, in advance of the closing of the hatches between the linked spacecraft late Monday night. The shuttle will depart Tuesday.

Mickey Mouse Has A New Voice

Chapman Recording & Mastering announced that, after a nation-wide competition, Bret Iwan, a former illustrator of Hallmark greeting cards has landed the coveted job of portraying the Walt Disney Company's beloved Mouse. It's been reported that Iwan has recorded several spots as the famous character already, although none are believed to have been released yet.

Pixar Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award At Venice Film Fest

For the first time in Venice Film Festival history, an entire movie studio (instead of just one filmmaker)was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award on Sunday. The honor went to five Pixar directors - John Lasseter, Brad Bird, Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich. Pixar, founded in 1986 and based in northern California, pioneered digital computer animation and has made 10 feature films to date, four of which have won Oscars since the animation category was introduced in 2001.

Jaeyung Hyung Wins Fourth Annual Disneyland Half Marathon

Jaeyung Hyung, of Las Cruces, N.M., celebrates his victory Sept. 6, 2009 at the Disneyland Half Marathon, held at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif. Hyung finished the 13.1-mile race in a time of 1:10:44. Thousands of participants from every U.S. state and 13 countries took part in the fourth annual event that is part of a three-day celebration of health, fitness and family fun.

Luxo Sues Pixar/Walt Disney Company Over Copyright

Norwegian lamp maker Luxo filed a lawsuit Thursday in federal court in New York accusing Pixar and parent Walt Disney Co. of infringing its copyright by selling a limited-edition Luxo Jr. lamp packaged with a Blu-ray version of the Disney/Pixar movie "Up." Luxo said in the suit that the sale of the Pixar lamps would "cause devastating damage to Luxo."

Disney Wonder Rescues Passenger At Sea

Florida Today reported that a 34-year-old man who fell overboard from a cruise ship late Wednesday was in good condition yesterday after being rescued by crewmembers from the Port Canaveral-based Disney Wonder. The unidentified man was pulled from the Atlantic Ocean at about 12:45a.m. yesterday, about 90 minutes after U.S. Coast Guard officials said he fell off of the Carnival Sensation, a cruise ship also based at the Port.

Castaway Cay Expansion Underway

Castaway Cay, Disney's private island paradise in the tropical waters of the Bahamas,is getting an extra dose of pixie dust.The additional island amenities are scheduled to be complete by summer 2010, in time for special five-night cruises aboard the Disney Wonder with two stops at Castaway Cay, and the Disney Dream cruise ship which starts sailing in early 2011.
