John Lasseter Wins Lifetime Achievement Award

John Lasseter's pair of Oscars have a new friend: a lifetime achievement trophy. The Pixar and Disney animation chief received the award Friday night for his dedication to the 40-minutes-or-less medium from Shorts International, an entertainment organization which promotes, distributes, broadcasts and produces short films.

Disney's FASTPASS To Be Available For Character Meet And Greets

When meet-and-greets with Mickey Mouse move into a permanent new location in Town Square later this spring, Magic Kingdom guests will be able obtain a Disney's FASTPASS ticket specifying a one-hour window when they can return to see the popular character for hugs, photos and autographs -- without waiting in the standby queue. It will mark the first time the complimentary, computerized service has been available for a character meet-and-greet at any Disney Park.

Temporary Outage For Some Magic Kingdom Attractions

An air compressor problem caused a temporary outage of some rides at Disney World's Magic Kingdom in Florida. Disney spokesman Bryan Malenius said rides such as Magic Carpets of Aladdin and Dumbo The Flying Elephant were down for around an hour Tuesday. Everything was back to normal by about 11 a.m.

Disney Junior Debuts!

Disney Junior, the new destination for children ages 2-7, debuted yesterday replacing the popular Playhouse Disney. Along with old favorites such as "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse", new shows "Jake and the Never Land Pirates", "Babar and the Adventures of Badou" and others will fill the programming block on the Disney Channel.

Mickey's Toontown Fair Closes At WDW's Magic Kingdom

Originally opened as Mickey's Birthdayland in 1988, changed to Mickey's Starland in 1990 and finally Mickey's Toontown Fair in 1996, Toontown closed for good on February 11, 2011 to make way for the Fantasyland expansion. The new area should be complete sometime in 2013.

ElecTRONica At DCA Extended Through Labor Day

Guests have had so much fun at ElecTRONica, the grid will be open all summer long at Disney's California Adventure. ElecTRONica is a nighttime celebration that features music, live performances and interactive experiences, and it has become the place to dance the night away. Inspired by the computer world-environment of "TRON:Legacy," ElectTRONica comes to life every night in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot.

Phineas & Ferb Meet-And-Play To Begin May 2011

Guests will be able to take part in an energetic and fun-filled meet-and-play experience with Phineas & Ferbat Disney's Hollywood Studios (scheduled to begin in May). With the help of guests and movie director Cletus Filmore, they will recreate some of their favorite moments...unless they are taking a break to meet with their adoring fans, signing autographs and taking pictures. The fun will take place near the exit to Muppet-Vision 3-D.

Disney Legend Bill Justice Dies At 97

Bill Justice, one of the legends of Walt Disney animation and imagineering who contributed to 57 short films and 19 features, died in Santa Monica of natural causes. He was 97. Walt Disney himself asked Justice to join Walt Disney Imagineering in 1965, a job at which he programmed audio animatronics figures for such Disneyland rides as Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Mission to Mars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Country Bear Jamboree and America Sings.

Disney Profits Soar In Final Months of 2010

A rebound in its theme parks during the final three months of 2010 helped propel the Walt Disney Co. to 54 percent quarterly profit growth, the company announced Tuesday. Disney said it made $1.3 billion for the three months that ended Jan. 1, the first quarter in the company's fiscal year, up from $844 million a year earlier. Companywide revenue rose 10 percent to $10.7 billion. The results easily topped Wall Street expectations.

Tiki Room Set to Re-Open March 27

The Enchanted Tiki Room -- Under New Management' is set to re-open at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom on March 27 after being closed since January 12 because of a small fire in the attic of the classic attraction. No changes are said to have been made.

Star Wars Weekends Dates Announced

Today you can start making your plans to journey to a galaxy far, far away and step into the Star Wars saga, as Disney officially announced this year’s event dates for the first time. Star Wars Weekends 2011 will be held at Disney’s Hollywood Studios every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 20-June 12.

King of Kong Arcade Opens At Orlando International Airport

Travelers of all ages at Orlando International Airport have a new amenity and customer service to enjoy. Donkey Kong gaming icon Billy Mitchell officially opened the “King of Kong” arcade in the main terminal near the food court at Orlando International Airport.
