Kilimanjaro Safaris To Undergo Refurb At Animal Kingdom

Beginning this spring, the Kilimanjaro Safaris attraction will undergo some changes to give guests an additional opportunity to see more of their favorite animals, specifically zebra. To do so, Walt Disney Imagineering will make some creative changes to the last scene in the attraction by removing the Audio-Animatronics “Little Red” elephant and related set pieces. This area will then be reconstructed as savannah space and feature a new watering hole for live animals.

8 Themed Lands For California Adventure, Cars Land To Officially Open June 15

When the Disney California Adventure 5 year expansion is complete this summer, eight new lands will make up the theme park, including a bug's land, Condor Flats, Grizzly Peak, Hollywood Land, Pacific Wharf, Paradise Pier, and new lands Buena Vista Street and Cars Land. Earl of Sandwich Coming to Disneyland Resort's Downtown Disney District

Earl of Sandwich is coming to Downtown Disney at Disneyland in early summer 2012! The only Earl of Sandwich in the state of California, the restaurant will be located adjacent to the AMC Theaters close to the Disneyland Hotel. In addition to a variety of sandwiches including it's signature hot sandwich, the Original 1762, soups, salads, wraps and desserts also are on the menu. Earl of Sandwich is also located at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Paris.

Fastpass Changes Coming to WDW in March

In preparation for implementing it's NextGen project, Disney World will apparently soon be enforcing the return time on it's Fastpasses. Beginning March 7, guests will be allowed to enter 5 minutes before the start time and only up to 15 after the end time stated on the Fastpass. For many years, guests were able to take advantage of the Fastpass being honored all day after the first return time.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror race weekend will involve a variety of events, including a 5K and Kids’ races, plus a Health and Fitness Expo, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney. Disney Vacation Club Coming to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa

In a newsletter sent out today, to current Disney Vacation Club members, Disney has announced the opening of 147 villas as part of the previously announced expansion of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Estimated to open in late 2013 near Disney's Wedding Pavilion, the resort's slated to become the 12th Disney Vacation Club property. "With the continued popularity of Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, we are thrilled to offer our Members and Guests a new resort option along the monorail beam with easy access to the Magic Kingdom Park, as well as a variety of shopping, dining and recreation experiences," said Claire Bilby, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Disney Vacation Club.

Combine some of the world’s finest automobiles with a track specifically designed for drivers to safely experience their awe-inspiring acceleration, speed and handling and you have “Exotic Driving Experience”, the latest offering from Petty Holdings. Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights Returns to DHS

The annual display of holiday cheer, which features millions of dazzling lights, has returned to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. From now until Jan. 7, 2012, the cityscape and building facades in the park’s Backlot area will be draped in multicolored lights that periodically “dance” to holiday tunes. In addition to the buildings, the area will also feature illuminated carousels, angels, Santa Claus and other figures. (The spectacle will not be operational on Dec. 8). This offering actually began in 1986 in Arkansas, at the home of businessman Jennings Osborne, who strung 1,000 lights as a Christmas gift to his daughter. The exhibit was transported to Disney in 1995 and is a popular holiday draw for many guests.

Exotic Driving Experience Coming to Disney World

There’s a new driving experience coming to the Walt Disney World Speedway early next year that will allow anyone with a driver’s license to get behind the wheel of an amazing “supercar.” The Exotic Driving Experience will feature “supercars” by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi and Porsche on a track specifically designed for the attraction when it opens on Jan. 16, 2012. There are also plans to add other exotic models into the lineup in the future.

Bob Iger To Step Down As Disney CEO In 2015

According to the Wall Street Journal, Walt Disney Co. Robert (Bob) Iger will step down as CEO in 2015. Mr. Iger, 60 years old, will add the additional title of chairman of the board in March 2012, and will remain executive chairman until June 2016, at which time he is to retire from Disney at the age of 65.The company said a successor had not been chosen.

Disney Cruise Line Adds Second Hawaiian Cruise

Based on an overwhelming response to its first Hawaiian itinerary, Disney Cruise Line® is adding a second Hawaiian cruise to its 2012 schedule. Magic Kingdom Parking Lot Changes

Earlier this week, work began to split the parking lot into what will be two main sections, “Heroes” and “Villains,” and then smaller sections within each, including: Woody, Aladdin, Peter Pan, Simba, Mulan and Rapunzel (Heroes lot), and Zurg, Jafar, Hook, Scar, Cruella and Ursula (Villains lot). Each lot also will have its own color, so essentially, all you have to remember is one of these three characteristics (hero, Rapunzel or blue) and you can find your car.

AVATAR Themed Lands Coming to Disney Parks

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide is joining forces with filmmaker James Cameron and Fox Filmed Entertainment to bring the world of AVATAR to life at Disney parks. Disney will partner with Cameron and producing partner Jon Landau to create themed lands that will give theme park guests the opportunity to explore the mysterious universe of AVATAR first hand. Disney Announces Partnership With Chiquita

Walt Disney World and Chiquita announced a partnership Friday that will bring produce to Disney's theme parks and cruise ships. As part of the agreement, Chiquita will sponsor the Crush 'n' Gusher, a water coaster at Typhoon Lagoon as well as Living with the Land at Epcot. Spiltsville Comes to Downtown Disney's West Side

After recently disclosing the delay to the redo of the Pleasure Island area, Hyperion Wharf, Disney has announced that new entertainment, in the form of upscale bowling and billards, will be added in Downtown Disney. This fall, construction will begin on Splitsville, a 50,000-square-foot entertainment center that combines bowling with billiards, dining, music and nightlife. To make way for this experience, RIDEMAKERZ, currently located on the West Side, will move to the Marketplace.

New California Adventure Entrance Debuts

ESPN The Weekend Cancelled

According to a release on the Disney Parks Blog, ESPN the Weekend will no longer be offered at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Disney states, "Our focus will be on creating events like the new ESPN RISE Girls Showcase and the ESPN RISE Games, which provide a stage for tens of thousands of athletes from around the country, and providing opportunities for guests to be part of events they’ve only before watched on television, such as the Home Depot College Football Awards and the Old Spice Classic." This annual event staged in Disney's Hollywood Studios in March, was first created in 2004 in support of ESPN's 25th anniversary.

Validating Beverage System to Begin at WDW Resort Hotels

The Walt Disney World resort has begun to implement new validating soft drink beverage systems at its Resort Hotels. Guests use the new beverage system by pushing their cup or mug against a lever arm located below the soft drink dispenser. The new beverage systems are reportedly made by ValidFill. The company describes their technology as RFID based and is capable of storing such information as Cup Size (in Ounces), Date Purchased, Location Purchased, and Time of Last Use into refillable mugs or in a tag that can be placed on disposable cups.

WDW Parks Fill the Sky With Fireworks on July 4th

On the fourth of July, Disney's Hollywood Studios will join in the evening fireworks fun with a special holiday show prior to Fantasmic!. Magic Kingdom will treat guests to the "Concert in the Sky" display with patriotic music and "bombs bursting in air". Epcot will present its acclaimed "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth." show with a special holiday finale. Epcot guests can also participate in meet-and-greets with Benjamin Franklin, Betsy Ross and Disney characters adorned in patriotic dress at American Adventure. Candlelight Processional Narrators Announced

The Narrators for the 2011 Candlelight Processional have been released. The list of celebrities this year include; Neil Patrick Harris, Trace Adkins, Whoopie Goldberg, Susan Lucci, Blair Underwood and more. The Candlelight Processional is a joyous retelling of the Christmas story by a celebrity narrator accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra and a glorious mass choir. Lightning McQueen Joins Cast Of 'Lights, Motors, Action!' At Hollywood Studios

Rapunzel To Become 10th Official Disney Princess

Two Disney Legends Die Within Day Of Each Other

Betty Taylor, who played Slue Foot Sue in Disneyland's longrunning Golden Horseshoe Revue, died Saturday, one day after the death of her longtime partner in the revue, Wally Boag, died. Taylor was 91 and passed away at her home in Washington state, while Boag was 90 and died in California.

Disney Profits Soar In Final Months of 2010

A rebound in its theme parks during the final three months of 2010 helped propel the Walt Disney Co. to 54 percent quarterly profit growth, the company announced Tuesday. Disney said it made $1.3 billion for the three months that ended Jan. 1, the first quarter in the company's fiscal year, up from $844 million a year earlier. Companywide revenue rose 10 percent to $10.7 billion. The results easily topped Wall Street expectations.
